A Showcase of Outstanding Prowess and Teamwork: Pickleball Section Shines at Thailand Open

The Pickleball Section left an indelible mark on the recent Thailand Open held in Hua Hin, showcasing exceptional athleticism and teamwork over five days of intense competition from 31 January to 4 February.

The Section’s 13 players exhibited outstanding skill and determination, securing podium positions an impressive 11 times across various categories, ranging from Men’s and Women’s Doubles to Mixed Doubles. This remarkable achievement speaks volumes about the Section’s commitment to excellence and its players’ prowess on the court, despite competing against opponents of formidable calibre. The final medal tally for the contingent stood at an impressive 4 Gold, 3 Silver, and 4 Bronze, reflecting their dominance throughout the tournament.

During a break from the competition schedule, the players embarked on captivating excursions to explore Thailand’s natural wonders. On 2 February, they hiked to the tranquil Para U Waterfall, fostering camaraderie amidst lush landscapes, followed by a culinary indulgence at Monsoon Valley Winery. This rejuvenating break strengthened their bonds beyond the court. The next day, they ventured to Phraya Nakhon Cave within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, marvelling at its grandeur and historic Kuha Karuhas Pavilion. The excursions offered a brief respite for the players from the competition, greatly enriching their spirits.

Pickleball Convenor, Mr Benny Gan described the trip as more than just a competition, as it embodies the essence of passion, perseverance and fellowship. “For the NUSS players, it was not just about the medals won, or the matches played but about the bonds forged, the memories cherished, and the spirit of sportsmanship that prevailed throughout their journey”, he said.
