Harmony in Voices: NUSS Singathon 2024

Kent Ridge Guild House resonated with vibrant activities and melodious voices on 9 March as NUSS hosted the annual Singathon event. 302 students from 9 participating schools were in attendance, igniting the start of a joyous school holiday season for the children.

Held annually since 2011 and as part of NUSS Choir’s community outreach, NUSS Singathon aims to bring choirs and choristers of all ages and backgrounds together in a fun way to share choral music through friendly performances, exchange of ideas, and stage experiences.

Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall was bustling with action and laughter the entire morning. Students from Endeavour Primary School, Raffles Girls’ Primary School, Bedok Green Secondary School, Compassvale Secondary School, Queenstown Secondary School, Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School, Hai Sing Catholic School, NUS High School of Math and Science and Cantare bonded with members from NUSS choir over a series of games and activities.

The highlight was undoubtedly the performance segment, where the different choirs took turns to the stage to belt out enchanting melodies. The NUSS choir first set the stage aglow with their renditions of “O Occhi Manza” and “Ashes to Dust.” Subsequently, each participating school showcased a diverse array of songs spanning different genres, including the Chinese classic “月亮代表我的心” (The Moon Represents My Heart), a crowd favourite.

The exhilarating day concluded with a sumptuous lunch and an engaging open mic segment. Participants all radiated with joy, united by this newfound camaraderie that transcended barriers of age and background, forged through their shared passion for choral music.
