NUSS Sustainability Chapter: Sustainability in Action -Walking Together and Crafting Climate Collages

Walking with Nature and Heritage

On the morning of 3 August 2024 at Rifle Range Nature Park, the NUSS Sustainability Chapter hosted “Walking Towards Sustainability”, a nature walk that seamlessly integrated culture, heritage, and the history of wildlife conservation.

This enriching activity introduced participants to the broader aspects of sustainability—economic and social—aligned with the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The stroll was more than just an exploration of nature; it was an insightful experience that deepened the appreciation for Singapore’s environmental and cultural heritage. Participants also enjoyed freshly brewed tea made from harvested edible plants, served in recyclable cups, which reinforced the eco-conscious message.

Exploring Digital Impact: The Digital Climate Collage Workshop

Earlier in July, the chapter held its second climate collage workshop, Digital Collage (DC), following the success of the Climate Fresk during GreenFest. The event, held on 10 July 2024, brought together 20 participants for a structured 3-hour session exploring the environmental impacts of our digital technology use. The workshop unfolded in three phases—Head, Heart, and Hand. The Head segment focused on the scientific understanding of technology’s effects on the climate, while the Heart segment facilitated thoughtful reflections and discussions. The workshop concluded with the Hand segment, where participants identified actionable steps they could take both individually and as a community to drive meaningful environmental change.

Both the nature walk and the digital collage workshop emphasised that sustainability is not confined to a single dimension; it encompasses our connection with nature, our technological habits, and our commitment to fostering a better future. Through these initiatives, the NUSS Sustainability Chapter continues to inspire proactive environmental stewardship and a collective effort toward a sustainable and vibrant future for all.
