Celebrating the Exceptional Recipients of the National Day Awards 2024

On 25 November 2024, NUSS hosted a celebratory dinner at the Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall, Kent Ridge Guild House, to honour members who received the prestigious 2024 National Day Awards. Approximately 60 guests, including award recipients and their spouses, gathered to commemorate their outstanding contributions to the nation.

NUSS President Mr Tong Hsien-Hui expressed that NUSS is humbled to be blessed with esteemed members, as he recognised the outstanding achievements of several honourees. Among them was Mr Phillip Tan, Chairman of Yellow Ribbon Singapore, who received the Distinguished Service Order for his transformative efforts in rehabilitating ex-offenders.

President of NUS, Professor Tan Eng Chye, and Mr Edward D’Silva, former Chairman of the Hygiene Council, were acknowledged for receiving the Meritorious Service Medal. Mr Tong also recognised Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of the NUS Board of Trustees, and Ms Jennie Chua, Chairman of Vanguard Healthcare, both recipients of the Distinguished Service Order, for their exceptional leadership and contributions to the community, though they were unable to attend the dinner.

Mr Tong reflected on NUSS’ milestones in its 70th year, including the Plant-It-Forward Challenge and the NUSS Charity Golf event, which collectively raised an impressive $777,000 for the NUSS Bursary Fund. He also commended initiatives such as the NUSS 70th Anniversary Lecture and the publication of Commentary on Singapore, which continue to foster intellectual engagement and meaningful dialogue within the community.

The Celebratory Dinner encapsulated the values NUSS cherishes—service, community, and excellence—while honouring members who embody its enduring spirit. It was a heartfelt tribute to the shared values that unite NUSS members and the lasting legacy they continue to build together.
