The annual Lo Hei Dinner brought together NUSS members and honoured guests for an evening of festivity and camaraderie. Held on 4 February 2025, at the Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall, Kent Ridge Guild House, the event welcomed esteemed guests, including Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and his spouse, Madam Tan Choo Leng; NUS Pro-Chancellors Mr Chan Sek Keong and Mrs Theresa Foo; NUS Board of Trustees Chairman and NUSS Honorary Member Mr Hsieh Fu Hua; NUS President and NUSS Honorary Member Prof Tan Eng Chye; and other notable members of the NUS Senior Management Team. Amidst lively conversations and the joyous tossing of yusheng, attendees embraced the spirit of renewal, prosperity, and unity as they celebrated the 7th day of Lunar New Year together.
Beyond the celebrations, the evening reaffirmed NUSS’ commitment to NUS. A key moment was the cheque presentation, where NUSS President Mr Tong Hsien-Hui presented $250,000 to Prof Tan Eng Chye, continuing NUSS’ annual support for the NUS Alumni Bursary Fund. Since 2013, this pledge has uplifted underprivileged students, with last year’s contributions benefiting over 500. It also fosters alumni giving and has helped raise $34.5 million (before government matching) as of 31 December 2024, ensuring equal opportunities for all students, regardless of financial background.
NUSS’ contributions to NUS go beyond financial support. The Society has played a key role in the university’s development, from funding the Shaw Foundation Alumni House to establishing the NUSS Professorship, which fosters academic excellence. The NUSS-NUS Mentorship Programme, now in its 12th cycle, has positively impacted nearly 2,400 mentees, reinforcing NUSS’ commitment to nurturing future leaders.
The NUSS Lo Hei Dinner highlighted the Society’s dedication to giving back and strengthening alumni ties. Through ongoing collaboration with NUS, NUSS continues to expand opportunities for students and promote a culture of generosity and academic achievement.
