The festive spirit of the Lunar New Year filled the air at Kent Ridge Guild House Lobby on 2 February 2025, as NUSS members gathered for the highly anticipated Lion & Dragon Dance Spectacular. Performed by the Wenyang Sports Association, the celebration ushered in the Year of the Snake with an electrifying display of tradition, prosperity, and community spirit.
The event opened with the thunderous beats of war drums, marking the start of the mesmerising dragon dance, gliding gracefully through the space, symbolising strength, wisdom, and good fortune. The excitement heightened as the lion dance took centre stage, captivating the crowd with its acrobatic leaps from pole to pole. The performance culminated in the traditional Cai Qing (采青) ritual, where the lions ‘plucked the greens’—a symbolic act of ushering in blessings, wealth, and prosperity for the year ahead.
NUSS President Mr Tong Hsien-Hui, Honorary Treasurer Ms Catherina Tan, Food & Beverage Sub-Committee Chairperson Dr Keith Liew, and Finance Sub-Committee Chairperson Mr Lee Hay Keong presented mandarin oranges to attendees, fostering camaraderie and reflecting NUSS’ commitment to preserving traditions and strengthening community bonds.
As the festivities concluded, the Lion & Dragon Dance Spectacular set a spirited tone for the Year of the Snake, with NUSS looking forward to more celebrations that unite members in joy and tradition.
