The inaugural NUSS Cultural Day & Dinner was held on 27 April, at Kent Ridge Guild House. It was a fulfilling day lined up with a plethora of activities and workshops, before the 150 members and guests in attendance gathered at Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall for a celebration of culture and camaraderie.
The four Cultural Sections, Choir, DanceSport, DramaWorks, and Music, have long been a cornerstone of the NUSS family, standing as pillars of creativity and self-expression. In a bid to attract more members to embark on their artistic journey, the Sections organised meticulously crafted workshops and engaging activities, allowing members to try out the various art forms for free.
Participants explored harmonious choral arrangements and sang excerpts from an ABBA Medley with NUSS Choir Director, Mr Adyll Hardy. For the more energetic participants, they had the opportunity to pick up basic Cha Cha moves and learn Line Dance routines. Those inclined towards expression and creativity explored improvisation and non-verbal communication at the Dramaworks workshops. Additionally, the Music Section captivated participants with their signature open jam sessions, showcasing their musical prowess.
After an invigorating afternoon of creativity and self-expression, the Cultural Dinner commenced with a spirited performance by the NUSS Band, enchanting the audience with a repertoire of light fusion music, setting the stage for Organising Chairperson, Mr Daniel Chia to deliver his opening remarks.
In his welcome address, NUSS President Mr Edward S Tay said that the event was aptly themed ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’, with each section embodying its unique cultural element, before harmoniously blending together like the vibrant pieces of a kaleidoscope. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Convenors of the four Cultural Sections. Your contributions are integral in shaping a closely knitted graduate community. I would also like to commend the Section members for your achievements in the past year,” said Mr Tay.
Beyond the formalities, the audience was also blown away by the engaging performances put up by the four Sections. The highly anticipated lucky draw segment also brought an abundance of joy and laughter, adding a delightful touch to the evening’s proceedings. As the night drew to a close, the open dance floor beckoned, inviting guests to revel in the joyous celebration and dance the night away.
